Learner-centered Leadership & Campus Culture
The first competency defines that the principal knows how to shape campus culture by facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school community. You are invited to click here for my blog posts related to learner-centered leadership and culture. Here is how I strive to meet the expectations of this competency:
- High 5 Guys Mentor Program Coordinator – created a male-to-male mentor program for middle school sixth and eighth graders. The program integrated student leadership opportunities for eighth grade mentors and academic, social, and behavior support structures for sixth grade mentees.
- Campus Improvement Plan – co-chaired the development of the campus improvement plan to improve student performance for all student populations, including students in special programs, with respect to academic performance indicators.
- Freshman Transition Program Coordinator – led the creation of the Freshman Transition Program for a 3000-student high school geared to provide healthy academic and personal support structures for current and incoming freshman learners. Currently, I am serving as coordinator of this program.
- Virtual Team – implemented a virtual team concept in order to help educators without a common off period speak about individual learners, looking through the lens of academic progress, behavior intervention, and truancy prevention.
